Home decor trends come and go. And they are fun to experiment with! But knowing your personal style is key to acquiring decor items that will be staples in your home for years to come. I’m always looking for items that fit well with my home color palate and will be timeless pieces that I can mix and match and move from room to room. I love neutrals and always will, but over time I’ve learned to incorporate more contrast and texture in to each space to ensure sure things don’t look too “matchy-matchy” or one-dimensional.

Here’s 5 neutral decor items that you won’t want to swop out any time soon!

  1. Vintage Inspired Area Rugs

Vintage rugs are truly timeless. But if the hunt for or the price tag of the perfect vintage rug for your room is off-putting, a vintage inspired piece might be the best fit.

I have this rug in my living room in Navy/Sand color way and absolutely love it. It adds some deeper hues while still leaning very neutral. It holds up to our daily wear and tear and is so incredibly soft. The balance of light and dark tones makes it great for all seasons. It is one of those “I’m so glad I went for it” purchases!

2. Coffee Table Books

Coffee table books aren’t just for the coffee table! They are perfect for layering home decor items and are also an ideal addition to any dresser, shelf or console table.

This book from Architectural Digest is substantial in size. If you like me, you love interior design, you’ll love flipping through this under a throw blanket with a cup of coffee or glass of wine.

3. Green Stems

Green is a neutral color in my book and nothing brings a pop of life to a room like real or faux greenery! A few tall stems in a slim vase on a mantel or a full arrangement in the center of coffee table can change the whole feel of a space.

I love the scale of these stems when used in a full arrangement. The color is vibrant without distracting from the rest of the room.

4. Decorative Storage Baskets

Textural storage baskets and trays blend form and function seamlessly. There’s a place for one in just about every room of the home. Place a large basket at the end of the couch or by the mantel for throw blankets or in your entryway to store accessories for coming and going.

I love this wicker basket for its size and the angled braid on the sides adds some extra visual interest.

5. Landscape Wall Art

Art elevates a space. Landscape art has a calming effect that works very well with other neutral tones. I love to layer landscapes with another art genre such as with an abstract piece or sketch.

This print has a calm but moody vibe. The visible brush strokes gives this a fine art look without the fine art price tag.
