Date Night Snack Plate

Nights out are great. Good food, good drinks, good music or conversation. But sometimes they aren’t practical or maybe you just don’t feel like getting ready (guilty!).  Enter- the date night (or girl’s night!) snack plate. It is such a great way to reconnect after working a long day or tucking the kids in to bed.  Snack-style foods encourage conversation and pair well with an evening glass of wine, cocktail, or mocktail.

The components of a date night snack plate are of course similar to any great snack plate- a variety of textures, flavors, colors and foods that pair well together. Generally, I like something salty, something sweet, something creamy, and something crunchy.  To take it up a level and make it feel special for your person or your pals choose a fancy version of a couple snack plate components.  Here’s some examples:

Marcona almonds- Instead of regular almonds or other nuts grab yourself some of these.  Why? They are a little luxurious. The almond skin is removed and they are usually sold cooked in oil and salted, giving them a rich flavor in addition to that great crunch.  They’re delicious, and yeah, a little pricey, but a small amount goes a long way here.

Chocolate dipped fruit or pretzels- This of course adds a touch of sweet to your snack plate but it also feels special.  Sure you could go all out with some fondue but just grabbing some chocolate covered pretzels will do the trick.

Freshly toasted bread- the bit of warmth and texture this adds makes it feel more like you’re at a nice restaurant than in your living room when you’re layering a bit of brie and jam.

Honey comb- Yep- regular honey works too, but if you are looking to elevate a component of your snack this will definitely do that.

A local or seasonal touch- Think caramel dip for some apple slices in fall or artisan pickles from a local specialty shop.

Warm dip- This adds a cozy touch, especially in colder months.

Here’s the full list of components used for the snack plate I made for my husband and I the other week:

  • Marcona almonds

  • Castelvetrano olives

  • Mini brie cheese

  • Fig jam

  • Prosciutto

  • Chocolate covered pretzels

  • Crackers

  • Apples

  • Mild cheddar

During your next trip to the grocery store pull up this list! Grab a few items and surprise your person or your friends this week.
